ABA based program
The science of ABA provides us with proven methodologies to teach variety of skills.
At 1 Step Ahead we use a combination of effective techniques based on the science of ABA that work best for the child. Each child's program consists of Intensive Teaching (IT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET).
We stress that a student's learning must be fun and motivating to all involved.
Discrete Trial Training (DTT) is a method that involves breaking skills down into simple steps ensuring the child's success and then combines these steps into more complex skills. It is simply a good way to teach.
Intensive Teaching is implemented in a structured teaching environment where activities and materials are selected by the interventionist. Discrete trials are presented rapidly to ensure high number of learning trials and reinforcement is provided for successful attempts and correct responses.
Natural Environment Teaching is a less structured teaching approach that follows child's interest and uses it as guide for instruction. Interventionists construct teaching opportunities using creativity, flexibility, and child's motivation. Correct responses are followed by consequences that are specific to the activity and the learner's interest.
The research suggests that intensive ABA based program should include a minimum of 20 hours per week. Number of active responses during intervention hours and motivation under which those responses occur are important.
