At 1 Step Ahead we use Assessment of Language and Learning Skills ABLLS-R (Partington, 2006) to identify each child’s skills and to guide with curriculum development.
ABLLS-R is an assessment, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system for children with language delays. The ABLLS-R contains a task analysis of many of the skills necessary to communicate successfully and to learn from everyday experiences (Partington, 2006)
The purpose of the ABLLS-R is to
- identify skills the student needs to acquire in order to become a competent learner
- provide a curriculum guide for an intervention program
- provide a tracking system for visual display of acquisition skills and continuous measure of learning achievements
ABLLS-R provides us with information on what the child can and cannot do and guides us in identifying critical skills to develop so each child can “learn how to learn”.
ABLLS-R contains 25 skill domains:
cooperation, visual performance, receptive language, imitation, vocal imitation, requests, labeling, intraverbal, vocalization, grammar, play, social interaction, group instruction, classroom routines, generalization, reading, math, writing, spelling, dressing, eating, grooming, toileting, gross motor, and fine motor
